Loneliness and isolation are two major issues with the senior population. Working to connect the people providing the services with the people who need them.
In the early 70s, the elders of the Johnson Street Church of Christ took a survey within the congregation and determined the need to assist some of their elderly members with affordable housing. In 1975 the West Texas Christian Foundation was created. Six years later, in the fall of 1981, Christian Village, a 150-unit (HUD subsidized) apartment complex opened to meet this need. In 1996, WTCF began the 3-phase construction of Village East, townhomes for singles/couples (55+) with maintenance free living. This project was completed in 2014 with 106 units. In 2016 WTCF (now West Texas Christian Ministries) sold the Christian Village complex. The proceeds from the sale have afforded the ministry the opportunity to create a new service to our senior population, Senior Life Ministries, by assisting in ways addressed above.
